Osteopathy is a very gentle and holistic approach that focuses on the root of the problem.
Osteopathy is a very gentle and holistic approach that focuses on the root of the problem.
The aim is to eliminate any tension that may have occurred during pregnancy and/or birth and restore the proper balance and harmony of the body to optimize health and well-being.
The osteopath rebalances the baby's tensions by working on the entire body (skull, spine, abdomen, pelvis, lower and upper extremities) with gentle and appropriate techniques. Also around the mouth (jaw, throat, soft palate) to enable your baby to breastfeed and easily bottle feed if he or she has difficulty.
WHAT SYMPTOMS DOES AN OSTEOPATH SUPPORT?
Newborn and infant therapy reduces physical stress from pregnancy and birth and is effective in the following situations:
Trauma resulting from difficult birth (too long or short birth, ventosis or forceps interventions).
Breastfeeding difficulties (difficulty latching, preferring to feed from one side.)
Crying, restlessness, difficulty settling down, colic, sleep disturbances.
Digestive problems (reflux, gas, constipation)
Head shape asymmetries and congenital torticollis.
Having your newborn baby checked by your osteopath, even if no symptoms appear, is beneficial in predicting future disorders.
In fact, some of the problems that develop in childhood are predictable.
To support development in children and to prevent the progression of posture-related deformities,
FROM WHAT AGE CAN AN OSTEOPATH SEE?
There is no minimum age. You can take your baby to an osteopath from birth.
It can be applied to children at any time to support their physical development, even if there is no condition.
If you have a specific concern, the sooner the better.
The earlier babies are cared for, the easier it will be to detect and eliminate tensions that may disrupt their body's balance and cause various discomforts.
However, it is never too late to seek osteopathic treatment.
WHAT ABOUT MEAL KIDS AND OLD KIDS? IS IT TOO LATE?
For toddlers and older children, treatment can help with:
Immune boosting
Recurrent ENT disorders (ear, nose and sinus infections)
Asthma
Behavior and learning difficulties
It is especially helpful to relieve tissue tension and prevent compensatory posture changes after significant falls and head or tailbone injuries.
The onset of puberty can exacerbate trauma experienced during birth and childhood and may manifest with structural or functional disorders such as scoliosis, headaches or difficulty concentrating. Playing sports, carrying heavy school bags, and using computers and video games can also cause injuries and imbalances.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING AN OSTEOPATH SESSION?
The first appointment will last one hour. We will obtain a comprehensive case history by asking you questions about your concerns, your pregnancy and birth history, your child's medical history, and family history.
We will then do a gentle examination, looking at the joints and muscles in the baby or child's body, as well as examining the cranial bones of the baby's skull (for example, we will look inside your baby's mouth for a tongue tie).
We then treat areas of tension appropriately by gently correcting them to ensure the baby continues to develop well and prevent future malfunctions.
In some cases, we may refer you to your doctor or pediatrician for further screening or treatment if necessary.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER A SESSION?
Treatment rebalances certain dysfunctions in your baby's body, and then your baby will begin to adjust to his new balance.
Your baby will definitely be tired after the session. Every baby will react differently.
Some babies will be very sleepy after the session, some will be anxious, their transition will be disrupted or they will be hungry for a few days.
After fully recovering from the session within 1 to 3 days, the baby's behavior will return to normal.
The results can be obtained immediately or a few days after the completion of the session.
In some cases, it may be appropriate to continue with several sessions.
